Why Pray If God Already Knows? — Participant Notes

  1. Prayer Connects Us to the Community of God.

In Matthew 6:9-13 Jesus said, “OUR Father,” — NOT MY Father.

Jesus Said, “Give US,” —NOT Give ME my daily bread.

  • Not once did Jesus use singular pronouns.

  1. Prayer Delights GOD!

Proverbs 18:8, “The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to the inmost parts.”

  • We were created to have a personal relationship with God.
  • Communication with God is an essential part to that relationship.

  1. Prayer Reveals Remarkable Secrets.

Jeremiah 33:3, “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

  • One of the significant advantages of praying to God—Who knows everything about the present and future—Is that He can and does reveal remarkable secrets to us, His children!

  1. Prayer Produces Faith.

1 John 5:14-15, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him.”

  • The Key to answered prayer is having the confidence to align our desires with God’s Plan, and Not asking for things that go against God’s Will.

  1. Prayer Strengthens US Against Temptation.

Matthew 26:41, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

  • It’s far better to pray for strength BEFORE we’re in the grasp of temptation.

  1. Prayer Reveals God’s Will.

Matthew 7:7, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened.”

  • The heart of Jesus points here to the fact that God is listening and paying attention to His people, and ready to give them gifts—what a remarkable truth!

  1. Prayer proves God.

Daniel 6:22, “My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions. They did not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.”

  • Prayer isn’t meant to change God’s mind, but rather to align our will with His.
  • Prayer is meant to deepen our relationship with Him.
  • Prayer is meant to express our needs and desires—while submitting to His greater plan.
